Sing praises unto our God

Over the May holiday weekend we have seen every kind of weather, commencing with snow on Ben Lomond, sunshine, hail, mist, wind and rain. The weather can sometimes make or break our holiday plans but the Psalmist encourages us to take a wider a view and recognise the weather cycles as an evidence of the kindness of God to us:

“Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving…who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.” Psalm 147:7,8

The Bible makes it clear that belief in a Creator God is a fundamental requirement for all who will know His salvation. It is not just a general belief that millions of years ago a ‘higher power’ may have ‘kick started’ the earth and then it has evolved into what we see all around us today. True faith understands that ‘the worlds were framed by the word of God’ Hebrews 11:3

The Psalmist also believed that the word of God sustains the earth:

“He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.” Psalm 147: 15-18

The May holiday weekend weather in Bishopton has been a demonstration of the power and word of God! He is waiting for us to praise and trust Him.

“The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.” Psalm 147:11
